As the Droughtlander continues, Outlander enthusiasts are revisiting the series from the start. The seventh season ended with a shocking revelation that Faith Fraser had somehow survived after being whisked away and revived in another era by Master Raymond (portrayed by Dominique Pinon).

Diana Gabaldon, the author of Outlander, has confirmed that the show will follow a different timeline to her books moving forward, putting much emphasis on Faith. However, viewers may have overlooked a touching scene in the second season between Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughan) and Faith that almost didn't make it into the final edit.

This scene featured Jamie and Claire Fraser (Caitríona Balfe) sharing an intimate moment, with Jamie tenderly touching his wife's pregnant belly and speaking to it. They also playfully speculated about the baby's gender.

Tragically, this would be the only interaction Jamie and Faith had before the baby was stillborn later in the season. While Claire had the opportunity to bid farewell to Faith, Jamie was unable to do so as he was imprisoned in the Bastille for his unlawful duel with Captain 'Black Jack' Randall (Tobias Menzies).

In the second season, Claire and Jamie shared a moment in the L'Hôpital des Anges cemetery, where Faith was laid to rest. Executive producer Ronald D. Moore and writer Matthew B. Roberts discussed the scene in detail on the Outlander podcast.

Roberts revealed: "Now, this scene was added. I'd written the entire script and this scene was added late in the game, so to speak.

"And, to me, it's the most important moment in the script because of what's coming."

Moore shared his initial reservations: "I think I was initially opposed to this scene because I thought it broke the mood of the aftermath of confrontation and the argument about Jack Randall.

"But I think what swayed me to now seeing it as a really important beat in the story, is that you do have to reconnect before you break them apart," he said.

Moore added: "And if you're not reconnected in this story and they were apart through this whole thing, then the ending of the show would be a little less shattering."

Roberts further elaborated on the significance of the scenes: "Exactly. And this is the moment they were a family, when he talked to his baby. When they were playful.

"He says 'he', she says 'she'. Because in his time, a he is very important and in her time... I mean, is Claire a feminist? I don't know, I'm not going to say. But it was important."

Outlander season 7 is available to buy now on Digital and is streaming on MGM+ via Prime Video now
