Late singer Liam Payne amassed a huge fortune from his role in one of Britain's best-loved boy bands, but the One Directioner also succeeded in his solo career. With a worth of £24 million and no will at the time of his death, legal steps were taken to transfer his money to the mother of his child, Cheryl.

She is now legally responsible for his property, possessions and all money he held at the time of his death, after being confirmed as an administrator for his estate. The 41-year-old, who was reportedly distraught at the unexpected loss of her ex-partner, now has the option to place the entire fortune in trust for son Bear. Under the rules of intestacy in England and Wales, a person’s spouse and then their children, will be the ones to have first claim to the deceased's estate.

The gross value of the estate totals £28,594,888, according to the letters of administration. Meanwhile, the net value, (the total after debts and expenses are deducted), totals £24,279,728, meaning Liam's estate lost around £4m.

Cheryl and Bray were awarded a limited grant of representation, "to allow the administrator power to preserve the deceased's estate until a general grant is made".

The decision will leave Kate Cassidy, his partner at the time of his death whom he'd planned to marry, with nothing.

However, her recent Instagram post confirming the contents of her handbag as part of a social media trend, made no mention of events.

Meanwhile, Liam's top priority is thought to have been his seven-year-old son Bear.

Heartbreakingly, the child he fathered with the woman who first propelled him to fame in her days as an X-Factor judge will now grow up without his famous dad.

However, Liam - who plunged from a Buenos Aires balcony last October while under the influence of drugs - has ensured that he will "want for nothing" financially.

Bear also attended Liam's funeral alongside his mum, who shielded her distress from him by donning a pair of dark sunglasses for the occasion.
