Good morning and thanks for joining our live blog. Today 133 cardinals will start the process of electing a new pope in the Sistine Chapel.
The day will begin at 10am with a televised mass in St Peter's Basilica.
The cardinals will then gather in the Sistine Chapel this afternoon.
Each day, aside from the first, cardinals can vote four times – twice in the morning and twice in the afternoon.
It is not known how long the process will take. Both of the most recent conclaves, in 2005 to elect Pope Benedict and 2013 to elect Pope Francis, lasted just two days.
