Prince George affectionately referred to his father, Prince William, with a charming nickname during the VE Day commemorations this past weekend. The nation recently marked the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, remembering the end of World War II on the continent.
The Mall saw a massive turnout as thousands gathered in front of Buckingham Palace to watch the Royal Family and witness an impressive flypast. The aerial display featured historic and modern aircraft, including the Eurofighter Typhoon and the renowned Red Arrows aerobatic team.
Among those present on the palace balcony were key members of the Royal Family, making their first joint appearance since Prince Harry's poignant BBC interview. Future monarchs Prince William and Prince George stood with Princess Kate, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Jeremy Freeman, speaking to ReachPlc, managed to catch a tender moment between George and William during the event. As they stood beside Queen Camilla, George nudged his father and said: "Papa, what a sound."
William reportedly then instructed his family to "wave" to the onlookers below, reports Edinburgh Live.
The familial bond between Prince George and Prince William was not a new sight during the VE Day commemorations. Earlier in the day, they had attended a tea party for veterans, where William spoke about George's interest in veterans and their welfare, as reported by LBC.
Royal commentator Emily Nash, speaking to Hello!, noted that this visit marked a significant moment in the 11 year old's journey towards becoming a future monarch.
She commented: "It was a lovely surprise to see Prince George joining the King and Queen and his parents for the veterans tea party at the Palace. "It's a big moment for him as second-in-line to the throne and one he will remember for many years to come.
"Both William and Catherine have spoken about their desire to teach their children about major moments in history, such the Holocaust, so this is another way for them to connect that wartime generation with their own next generation."
Outside of official duties, William and George have been seen enjoying quality time together in more casual settings, such as Aston Villa football matches, including their team's recent Champions League match against PSG.
Reflecting on their attendance at the game, William emphasised the importance of sharing these experiences with his son.
He expressed his excitement: "You know what, it's been 43 years since anything like this has happened in my generation as a Villa fan, and I want George to experience a night out away from home in a big European competition."
With a sense of hope for the future, he added: "I hope it's not 43 years until the next one happens, but I think those memories are really important to create and bringing him along tonight is a big deal for me."
