British supermodel Naomi Campbell will not be attending tonight's Met Gala after she has been reportedly banned by Vogue editor Anna Wintour following their feud. The annual event, which is held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, will end the 17 consecutive years of Campbell’s attendance at the Met Gala. It came after Anna called out the 54-year-old supermodel’s punctuality, to which the model responded by publicly bad-mouthed the Vogue editor-in-chief.
Last year the pair traded insults at a New York Fashion Week ceremony for Harlem’s Fashion Row. Anna was set to hand out the Fashion Icon Award but Naomi arrived too late, forcing Anna to leave without presenting it. Harper’s Bazaar editor-in-chief, Samira Nasr, had to present the award instead. Before exiting, Anna took to the stage and stated ‘I am a very punctual person, and I have the honour of presenting tonight to someone who is often late,’ she told the audience, referring to Naomi.
When accepting the award, Naomi bantered: ‘It wasn’t my choice to have the other lady, I’d much rather have this one.’
Reports at the time said she elicited gasps from the crowd and now, the comeback has seemingly returned to bite Naomi.
A source told The Sun: "Naomi shot herself in the stiletto with that comment. You don’t throw shade at the queen of fashion and still expect to walk her red carpet. Anna doesn’t forget – or forgive. It’s no coincidence. If Anna wants you out, you’re out. Simple as that."
They added: "Naomi’s been a Met staple for decades, so her absence from the list hasn’t gone unnoticed. Everyone’s whispering – and it’s Anna’s way of reminding who runs the show."
While Naomi hasn’t commented on ‘the ban’, last week she said she felt ‘too old’ to attend the event again.
Speaking in a YouTube video, she said of the 2024 gala: "It is my last. I can’t…I’m too old. It’s too much for me, the anxiety."
Despite these celeb feuds, what are the predictions for the major pop culture moments that could transpire both on the carpet and inside the event?
