Sean 'P Diddy' Coombs' career has been hugely prolific, selling over ten million albums as a solo artist and over 500 million via artists on his label, Bad Boy Records. Yet despite huge commercial success, a dark shadow hangs over his future as he stands accused of the sexual trafficking and abuse of multiple women.
P Diddy, who once dated the likes of Jennifer Lopez, has pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution and his federal trial is due to get underway today (May 5). His defence lawyers allege that all sexual encounters he's had have been consensual and although he's had an adventurous sex life, including swinging, he is not guilty of criminal charges. Diddy, whose real name is Sean Coombs, has however admitted kicking and assaulting ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, and CCTV footage of an incident of abuse will be included in courtroom evidence during the trial.
He claimed in an apologetic statement last year that he'd hit "rock bottom" - and takes "full" responsibility for the "inexcusable" actions seen in the video.
At his peak, Diddy's net worth was estimated at over $1 billion (£753,352,400) - but according to claims, his finances have taken a hit due to the negative publicity generated by the trial.
Fortune listed his business worth at $293.7 million (£221,259,600) in 2022, referencing his record label, real estate investments and even acting ventures, declaring him one of America's Richest 40 Under 40.
Diddy has acting credits in dozens of films, but has also been a TV and video producer, and he counts a primetime Emmy Award among his achievements.
He appeared alongside Russell Brand in the movie Get Him To The Greek, where he played Sergio, and he executive produced the Billboard Music Awards in 2022, as well as shows about Mary J Blige, Queen Latifah and Machine Gun Kelly.
However, his credits date back to much earlier than that: he's been in acting since 1999, and first came to true prominence when he played Halle Berry's condemned husband in the 2001 film Monster's Ball.
According to Business Insider, he also earns around $130 million (£97.94 million) annually from his record label - but the true extent of how legal wrangles and negative press could influence his income is yet to be seen.
The 'Mo' Money, Mo' Problems' singer has come a long way since his first job as a record label intern way back in 1990 and made more money than he might have imagined in his wildest dreams - but his billionaire status is under threat.
With the trial set to kick off today, and maximum charges being life imprisonment, Diddy's future as a hip-hop mogul and entrepreneur is yet to be discovered.
