Prince Harry is set to make an appearance at a glitzy awards ceremony in Beverly Hills this week, just days after he missed the Royal Family's reunion in Windsor on Easter Sunday. The Duke of Sussex will attend the 22nd Living Legends of Aviation awards, which will take place this Friday, April 25, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and will include a number of A-listers as well as aviation heroes.

According to the organiser's website, the awards celebrate "remarkable people of extraordinary accomplishment in aviation, including: entrepreneurs, innovators, industry leaders, astronauts, record breakers, pilots who have become celebrities and celebrities who have become pilots." Harry, who was honoured as a Living Legend last year due to his experience flying as a pilot in the British Army, will join various A-listers, including Morgan Freeman and John Travolta. The latter, as ambassador of aviation, will host the awards this Friday. The ceremony will celebrate all aerial firefighters who helped combat the devastating wildfires which spread havoc in California earlier this year.

According to Flying magazine, honourees this year will include Christopher Cassidy, a former Navy SEAL and NASA astronaut who logged three spaceflights, 10 spacewalks, and a total of logging 377 days in space, Robert "Hoot" Gibson, a former astronaut, Navy fighter pilot, and air race pilot, and Tom Costello, NBC’s lead aviation and space correspondent and an Emmy award-winning reporter.

This year, the ceremony will hand the inaugural Dr. Buzz Aldrin Space Advancement Award to the Polaris Dawn Crew for their first "historic" mission.

The ceremony will honour the mission's commander, Jared Isaacman, pilot Scott "Kid" Poteet, specialist Sarah Gillis, and specialist and medical officer Anna Menon for performing "cutting-edge experiments, high altitude orbital manoeuvres, and the first private spacewalk".

Last year, Prince Harry's appearance at the awards sparked a backlash after experts questioned whether he should be honoured as a "living legend of aviation".

After being inducted into the Living Legends of Aviation hall of fame, Harry thanked Mr Travolta and paid a sweet tribute to his late mother, Princess Diana, saying: "I was just a one-year-old when you danced with my mum at the White House and now look at us!

"The only thing left to do is... not dance together but fly together."

Prince Harry has served the military for ten years, completing two tours of Afghanistan where he flew in several combat missions, as well as flying in training missions in the UK, US and Australia.

He is also the founder of the Invictus Games, a sports tournament for wounded and sick ex-military personnel.

Thanking Travolta - who famously danced with Diana in 1985 - the Duke said: "I was just a one-year-old when you danced with my mum at the White House and now look at us!
