The King and Queen are set to be joined by several members of the Royal Family at St George’s Chapel, Windsor today for the annual Easter Sunday Matins service. While key family members such as The Princess Royal and The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are set to attend, The Prince and Princess of Wales, along with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, will spend the day at their Anmer Hall home in Norfolk.
The family’s decision to miss the service for the second time in a row came after a source told The Daily Mirror: "They are choosing to spend time together as a family before the children go back to school.”
The King’s Easter celebrations began when he issued a heartfelt Easter message in which he reflected on people being capable of both "great cruelty and great kindness" In a veiled reference to global conflicts, the King highlighted God's message that he "loved the world" and put his son on earth to show us that "love proved stronger than death". He also spotlights the three great virtues of "faith, hope and love" in a powerful message.
King Charles then marked Maundy Thursday with Queen Camilla at Durham Cathedral, where he presented specially minted coins to people recognised for their community service. Another much-anticipated day in the calendar, the Royal Maundy Service commemorates Jesus's Last Supper when he washed the feet of his disciples as an act of humility, the day before Good Friday.
