Kensington Palace shared a new video of the Princess of Wales on Monday night as she joined the Scouts on a special day out in the Lake District. While there, the Princess - who is the joint President of the Scouts - could be heard saying that nature helps her find a “sense of peace and reconnection” as walked and spoke to new Chief Scout Dwayne Fields.

While the clip was very sweet and sent royal fans into a frenzy on social media, there was one detail that many missed which links the Princess to one of the closest members of her family.

The Princess' brother, James Middleton, has been open about his mental health struggles over the years and previously revealed that he set off on a trip to the Lake District with his beloved dogs during a time where he wanted to "find a reason to live".

In an article for the Daily Mail, James recalled the trip and said that after being away for two-and-a-half days, he shared that he had "no electricity [and] no mobile phone connection" while his family were worried and trying to contact him.

He wrote: "The pings come thick and fast. 'Where are you, James?' 'We're desperate to get hold of you.' 'OK, we're really worried now.'"

Speaking of his regret over causing a huge amount of worry, James added: "My family thought I had gone away to die, to end my own life. I realise that now. I feel full of regret for not recognising just how panicked I'd made them."

Despite this, he recalled feeling "annoyed" and like he was being "controlled". He added: "At the time, however, irrationally – and unjustifiably – I feel annoyed, controlled. I'm a grown man. It has been the most formative trip of my life."

James, who is celebrating his 38th birthday on Tuesday, 15 April, added: "I had not gone away to end my life. I'd gone to find a reason to live. And I'd discovered it. So why was everyone intruding? I picked up a voicemail from Pippa: 'James, we're all so worried about you. Where on earth are you?'

"Her voice was tearful with concern, with just an edge of reprimand. I messaged her back, trying to quell my irritation: 'I've just been to the Lake District for a couple of days. Do I have to seek your permission?'"

As important as this visit was, the Middleton family's connection to the Lake District spans generations. In an interview with the Evening Standard, James wrote: "My great-great-grandfather on my father’s side lived in Yorkshire and so for him and his family it was somewhere to go nearby.

"Every school holiday we would stay anywhere from a weekend to a week there, in sun or snow or rain, and because there was no electricity in the family cottage it was a real adventure — hiking in the mountains and playing in the Lakes."

He went on: "There was a point at which I was in a very bad place, and I disappeared for a few days, and went to seek solace in the snowy Cumbrian mountains. I went up with the dogs and I had a thermos flask of soup, some cheese and a flapjack.

"There was nobody about, it was silent, bar the distant bleats of a herd of sheep. I got to the top and I cried; I shouted; I unleashed so many emotions. And I felt like there was this mountain of mental health struggles; depression and anxiety that I was finally, maybe, beginning to get to grips with and take control of.

"There was also this feeling of pleasure of being up there with the dogs and seeing them excited and happy to do whatever I wanted to do. I realised there was this potential light at the end of the tunnel."
