UK tourists are being urged to be more aware while on holiday in Spain, as the popular destination has introduced new rules to tackle public drinking. Insurance experts are warning Brtis to follow the new 9pm to 8am drinking rules when on holiday in Spain. Three major resorts in Majorca have enforced alcohol consumption bans as Spain cuts happy hours, public drinking, and the sale of alcohol between 9:30pm and 8am local time.

One Sure Insurance released a statement addressing that "with mass tourism a growing issue across Spain, the government has made it clear that they are comitted to enforcing fines for those emgaging in disruptive or inappropriate behaviour." All tourists should be are aware of the laws which are being "strictly enforced" in Spain.

The company added: "The government has made it clear that laws such as the public drinking ban, as well as restrictions on things like party boat trips, pub crawls, and alcohol sales after hours, are not temporary measures, but long-term regulations in place until at least 2027."

Public drinking is already banned in certain areas of the country and public consumption in some areas can lead to an immediate fine, as well as sexual activity in public places, including beaches. The new rules are targetting the sale and availability of alcohol in holiday hotspots including the Balearic's Magaluf and Playa de Palma in Majorca and San Antonia in Ibiza. 

The main aim is to stop excessive drinking through to prohibiting of happy hours, open bars with 'all you can drink hour in one hour' deals, alcohol vending machines, self-service alchohol dispensers, pub crawls, and party boat excursions. Hoteliers and other accommodation providers are also in support of tackling the disorderly behvaiour. Any guests that cause disturbances on balconies also risk fines and eviction. 

Hvar and Split in Croatia are amongst the other popular destinations that are set to enforce penalties for public drinking and inappropriate dress in certain areas.

The UK government's Travel Aware Campaign and "Stick With Your Mates" initiative is a response to the issues helping Brits, especially young tourists be aware of the dangers that come with drinking abroad.

The campaign reminds Brits that "Drinking aborad can be different to back in the UK. The quality of alcohol can be poorer, measurements of alcohol larger, and cheaper drinks and deals can result you getting more drunk, quicker than intended."
