The entertainment world is mourning the loss of a true icon, as Val Kilmer has passed away at 65. The star, known for his roles in Batman and Top Gun, succumbed to pneumonia, his daughter announced. Kilmer's death comes after he had triumphed over cancer.

Despite stepping back from the limelight in recent years, he remained engaged with his followers online. Just last week, he showcased his artistic talent, sharing a piece of his artwork on Instagram, which he mentioned was up for sale on his website.

His post featured an image of a fire, which he described with poetic flair: "It's got that late-night glow. Cool tones with a low burn, like when the camp fire cools down but you're still wide awake. 12" x 20" plexi-glazed, signed, and ready to hang."

Previously, Kilmer had posted a video alongside artist and musician David Choe, filmed in 2021 but shared just over a month ago, showing him in a padded room, reports the Mirror.

After a gruelling fight with throat cancer involving chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery, Kilmer was declared cancer-free in 2021, though the battle took its toll on his voice and led to a quieter life away from Hollywood's glare.

In the shared footage, Kilmer's altered voice is noticeable as he speaks before donning a custom Batman mask. His words, "I'm ready. It's been a while," are met with Choe's encouragement and laughter, complimenting his appearance.

With the mask on, Kilmer faced the camera, then turned towards a vibrant Batman painting, creating a poignant moment for fans and a lasting memory of the actor's legacy. Alongside the video, Kilmer showcased several portraits by Choe's, with Choe himself captured on tape expressing his admiration for the caped crusader.

As fans learned of his passing, they swarmed the comments section to offer their sympathies. "Forever my Batman rest in peace," a fan lamented, accompanied by a tearful emoji.

Echoing the sentiment, another shared: "Absolutely [broken heart emoji]," followed by an array of crying and broken-hearted emojis. They added, "Top Gun is one of my favourite films and Val as Iceman was iconic. Rest in peace Val."

Val's standout performances include his portrayal of Iceman in the 1986 blockbuster Top Gun and donning the Dark Knight's cowl as Batman/Bruce Wayne in Batman Forever (1995).

He also earned acclaim for his role as Jim Morrison in the 1991 biopic The Doors. His illustrious career became the focus of his self-titled documentary, Val, available on Amazon Prime, where he offered a raw glimpse into his acting legacy and battle with cancer.

Val is survived by his two actor children, Jack and Mercedes, with whom he shared the screen in Paydirt during the latter stages of his film career.
